Mrs. Heather Garrett

I am very fortunate to be working in my dream job!  I love sophomore English because of the persuasive writing - my background is in philosophy, linguistics, literature & the humanites.  I enjoy teaching my students about the purest form of argumentation, and I'll inevitably end up using all of my AVID strategies (Socratic Seminar, Philosophical Chairs, One Pagers, Sketch Notes, etc.).  I'm in my second year teaching my AVID students; I am so grateful to be able to follow them throughout their high school career.  I'm pleased that this year I am the English II team lead; my team is full of wonderful & dedicated teachers!  I also coach UIL Literary Criticism and I'm the Junior Class Sponsor.  My room is always extremely busy, but I'll definitely make time to speak to anyone that needs my help.  I LOVE questions, which is quite odd.  Then again, no one ever accused me of normalcy.

Any biography of me must include my amazingly talented husband, Jason, and our fantastic tiny human, Elora.  They are the ones who support me in everything I do, and they are the best and most important people in my life.  They are also incredibly patient when I have to grade essays all night!  I am lucky to have them in my life and I talk about them all the time.  All of my students end up meeting them at some point and seeing them in the hallway after lunch.  Jason is an artist in multiple mediums and is going back to school to get his degree so that he can become an art teacher.  For the last four years, he's been a stay at home dad for our girl - all of her awesomeness is totally his fault (especially her tendency to sing everything she does).  Elora is in PreK this year and she's just about the coolest kid in the entire world.  Biased?  You betcha.
