Little Elm ISD AIMS Program

  • AIMS (ACCELERATING INDIVIDUALS MOTIVATED TO SUCCEED) offers students an opportunity to regain credit and rejoin their original 9th grade class with the hopes of graduating with this group. AIMS offers a positive option to the larger secondary school setting, allowing students to work at an accelerated pace on individualized curriculum as well as take advantage of the elective programs offered through Little Elm High School.

     

    WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THIS PROGRAM?

    A Freshman or Sophomore student who meets the state criteria for students at risk of dropping out of school may be accepted to the AIMS program.

     

    WHO IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE AIMS PROGRAM?

    • Students who have been enrolled at Little Elm High School for less than nine weeks. 
    • Expelled students are not eligible during the term of their expulsion 
 


     

    HOW MUCH TIME WILL I HAVE TO SPEND IN SCHOOL?

    All students must attend class from 9:10-2:55 on Monday - Friday. 
AIMS students will attend Little Elm High School in the morning to complete elective credit. Students are making a commitment to remain in the program until the end of the current school year and/or until they regain enough credit to rejoin their 9th grade cohort.

     

     HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

    
Enrollment is free of charge to all eligible students. Middle of the day transportation as well as after school transportation will be provided.

     

    HOW MUCH TIME WILL I HAVE TO SPEND OUTSIDE SCHOOL HOURS?

    Students are encouraged to spend at least 10 hours a week working on course work outside of the school day: this includes weekends and school holidays, as needed. Students will also be required to participate in school related activities – workshops, preparation for assessments, six weeks celebrations, service committee projects, graduation exit meeting, enrichment opportunities, etc.

     

    HOW SOON CAN I REJOIN MY 9th GRADE COHORT?

    How soon a student rejoins his/her 9th grade class will depend upon how many credits the student has upon entering the program and how hard he or she is willing to work.

     

    WHAT ABOUT THE STAFF’S QUALIFICATIONS?

    The staff at AIMS is made up of motivated, highly qualified, certified educators who are trained in the most effective teaching and learning techniques available. All staff have specialized training to meet diverse learner needs.

     

    HOW DO I APPLY?

    Enrollment is limited. Students may request an application from their school counselor, the Zellars Learning Center, or get one online. Once you complete your application, you may turn it into the Zellars Learning Center or your counselor. Your counselor and assistant principal will complete a referral for you to AIMS. A required, parent/student interview with the AIMS staff will be scheduled. If approved by the AIMS committee, student will begin once there is an opening available.

     

    HOW DO I REMAIN IN GOOD STANDING IN AIMS?

    Students are expected to meet program expectations in attendance, behavior and academic progress. Students’ progress will continually be evaluated. If there is attendance, disciplinary, and/or academic problems, students may be removed from AIMS at any time. You must show progress in order to remain a student at AIMS. You are under the LEISD Student Code of Conduct, in addition to AIMS expectations. Remember,you are making a commitment to complete the school year and/or rejoin your 9grade class while attending AIMS.
