  • CHILD FIND IN LEISD:

    YOUNG CHILDREN

    For children ages 3 - 6 years old who are not enrolled in LEISD schools, Little Elm ISD provides Early Childhood Evaluations throughout the school year by appointment only.

    The Early Childhood Study Team identifies children ages three through six who may be developmentally delayed or have a disability in any way. Children with disabilities are eligible for school services on their third birthday and may continue through age twenty-one.

    The parent interview meeting may take up to 1 hour. Based on the outcome of the parent interview, it may be necessary to schedule formal testing at another time. During the evaluation, each child's hearing, vision, speech, motor skills, language ability, and developmental growth will be assessed. Informed written consent will be provided.

    For children enrolled in or eligible to attend Little Elm ISD schools, please contact the campus principal to request a Student Success Team (SST) meeting.

     

     

Who may qualify for Special Education?

  • Individuals who have the following disabilities may be eligible for Special Education services:

    • Autism
    • Deaf-blindness
    • Deafness
    • Emotional Disturbance
    • Hearing Impairment
    • Intellectual Disability
    • Multiple Disabilities
    • Noncategorical Early Childhood
    • Orthopedic Impairment
    • Other Health Impairment
    • Specific Learning Disability
    • Speech or Language Impairment
    • Traumatic Brain Injury
    • Visual Impairment

How Do I Get My Child Tested for a Disability?

  • Your child is enrolled in a Little Elm ISD school:
    • Contact your child’s teacher and discuss your concerns, ask questions about your child’s reading or math level and overall development in comparison to others in the classroom.
    • The Student Success Team (SST) will convene on the campus to consider your request for evaluation.
    • The District will ask you to formally consent to the evaluation or the District may formally refuse your request in a prompt, timely manner.

    Your child is not enrolled in public education:
    • For children turning 3-5 years old, contact Laurie Toben to schedule a screening. 
    • For children turning 3-5 years old, the screening team will ask you to formally consent to the evaluation or may formally refuse your request in a prompt, timely manner.
    • For children school-aged, contact the school in your attendance zone to consider your request.

    Your child is currently served in an Early Childhood Intervention Center (ECI):
    • The ECI case manager will invite you to a transition meeting with representatives from LEISD to discuss the evaluation and eligibility process.
    • If you choose to give consent for the testing an evaluation will be scheduled. Following the evaluation, you will be invited to a meeting to review the results and possible special education services provided by LEISD.
    • Your child’s ECI case manager and the campus designee, will be your contact throughout this process. 

    Your child is enrolled in a private school:
    • For children school-aged you will receive a response within 15 school days to further discuss your request or to begin the evaluation process.
    • For children turning 3-5 years old, you will need to contact your attendance zone school district to request evaluation.

    Pursuant to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the District has a duty to identify, refer, evaluate and if eligible, provide a free, appropriate public education to disabled students.
