B.B.A in Management

Mr. Reed Downing

Hello! This is my fourth year at Little Elm ISD(8th year teaching overall) but my second at Strike Middle School. I spent my first two years teaching Computer Science at Little Elm High School. I am a third generation teacher and originally from Ardmore, Oklahoma. I played baseball for two years at a junior college in Kansas before injuries forced me to no longer be able to play. I moved closer to home and became a full time employee in a trust department at a local bank, while also being a full time student at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. I graduated in 2014 with a degree in Business Management.

The next summer I decided to follow my passion and start teaching and coaching. I have previously taught Computer Science and Computer Applications. During my time coaching football, I coached in a state championship game and made two quarter-final appearances in consecutive years. I've coached in a regional championship in baseball and multiple college athletes in both football and baseball. While I no longer coach currently I am still a huge sports fan! My favorite teams in include the Cowboys, Rangers, Thunder, anything OU(Boomer!), and Liverpool FC(#YNWA).

I am excited for the new opportunity to help Strike Middle School students gain a better understanding of Technology Applications and how we can use our computers in the most productive ways. A basic range of subjects for Beginning Tech Apps include; understanding digital citizenship/footprint, correct typing etiquette, using and formatting all Microsoft Office and Google applications correctly, and an introduction to multiple coding languages. For Investigating Careers, our goal is to understand and study the multiple career pathways offered by LEISD. Students will also learn common skills and characteristics that lead to being successful students, which they will then be able to carry over to being a successful employee.

My main goal for each student is to be able to take at least one thing they have learned in this class and use it later on in other classes or later on in life. I believe in giving my students the opportunity to be self-reliant and responsible and they will get help and tips on how to do that throughout the semester. I have high expectations but I am also flexible and understanding that things happen we can't control. Students will be successful in my class as long as they turn in assignments, be willing to learn and are respectful, and understand that I'm here to help, not hinder their education.

Most, if not all, assignments will be on Canvas and will be completed in class. Very rarely will there be an assignment outside of the classroom. The reason being I want to be able to help immediately if a student has a question. For grades, Focus will be the best place to look throughout the semester. Again, I am very understanding of situations we cannot control so if something comes please feel free to send an email or call. Syllabi will be handed out the first week so there will be more information there. Also, feel free to email me if you have any questions or concerns. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you and having a great school year!

Go Lobos!!
