Why can't Little Elm ISD offer full-time virtual learning without further action from the state?
The virtual learning offered by Little Elm ISD during the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school years was only possible due to temporary waivers and flexibilities afforded to school districts as a result of COVID-19.
These flexibilities expired at the end of the 2020-2021 school year. School districts do not receive funding for full-time virtual learning outside of the pandemic, and the 87th Regular Legislative Session adjourned May 31 without final approval of a bill that would have expanded online learning in Texas and provided full funding to school districts who provide this opportunity to students. Without further action from the state, Little Elm ISD does not have a sustainable source of funding to implement a permanent virtual option.
-
Will there be a hybrid option where students can take classes or assessments both online and in-person?
No, Little Elm ISD will only offer full-time learning on campus during the 2021-2022 school year.
