Storybook Pumpkin Contest

  • Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,

This year, the library is getting into the fall spirit by having a pumpkin decorating contest. Lakeview Elementary School students and parents are invited to decorate a pumpkin like their favorite book character. It’s easy and fun for the whole family! Students may bring in a decorated pumpkin to the school and enter it into our contest that will begin on October 19th. All entries must be received by 12:00 pm on October 21st!  Winners will be announced Friday, October 28th! Visit our Lakeview Elementary School website for information, rules, photos and winners!

    Contest Rules:

    1. No carved pumpkins will be accepted. Pumpkins will need to be painted or colored with markers, NOT carved. Acrylic paints or permanent markers work best. Watercolors tend to run. Yarn, construction paper, pipe cleaners, etc. may be used to decorate the pumpkin; paste or glue may also be used.

    2. The theme for the pumpkin contest is “My Favorite Book Character.” You may pick any character from ANY BOOK you have read or heard. On the entry form, you must write the title and the author of the book.

    3. Please DO NOT write your name on the pumpkin. The pumpkin, author, and book title will be displayed for contest judges to view. The library staff will record information so that each pumpkin can be properly identified.

    4. There will be winners for each grade level. Winners will receive a prize. All participants will receive a goody bag.

    5. Pumpkins will be displayed in the library. We encourage entries that are not overly ripe or soft, since we will be displaying them for two weeks. All pumpkins must be taken home by Friday afternoon, October 28th. Any remaining pumpkins will be discarded.

    6. Participation is totally voluntary; the project can be done independently by the student or as a family project. Students choosing to participate must provide their own pumpkins and decorating materials.
