Ms. Joy Sanchez - Dyslexia Specialist/Reading Enrichment
I grew up in San Antonio, TX, and have known since I was in 1st grade I wanted to be a teacher. I began my college journey toward this dream at UT San Antonio before moving to DFW where I completed my degree at UNT. I started living my dream job in 2007. My experiences are rooted in elementary school grades K-5th. While I enjoyed my time as a general education classroom teacher, I found my heartstrings pulled toward our exceptional learners and began working in special education across a variety of settings, but mostly, inclusion support and co-teaching within the general education classrooms. After getting to work so closely with an array of amazing teachers and students, I finally discovered my desire to focus on teaching our striving readers using specifically scientifically research-based programs. This eventually led to my true passion, after gaining a wealth of knowledge and training through the LEAD program, to teach dyslexic students and striving readers. I made my way up to middle schoolers in 2018 as a dyslexia specialist at Lakeside Middle School, and now at the beautiful Walker campus. Getting to close gaps and retraining our Lobos' brains to read, spell, write, and so much more is a gift that keeps giving to my students and me. Once a student walks into my room they are always one of my students!
