Mrs. Heather Garrett (she/her)

I am very fortunate to be working in my dream job!  I love English because of the persuasive writing - my background is in philosophy, linguistics, literature & the humanities.  I enjoy teaching my English IV students about the purest form of argumentation, and I'll inevitably end up using all of my AVID strategies (Socratic Seminar, Philosophical Chairs, One Pagers, Sketch Notes, etc.).  I also teach OnRamps Rhetoric (English III) and I'm so happy to have some of my kiddos back for another year of argumentation.  Our topics are interesting, timely, & relevant.  This is an awesome class!

I coach UIL Literary Criticism, I'm the Sophomore Class Sponsor (GO 2025 LOBOS!!), and I lead the "Adulting 101" Club.  My room is always extremely busy, but I'll definitely make time to speak to anyone that needs my help.  I LOVE questions, which is quite odd.  Then again, no one ever accused me of normalcy.

Any biography of me must include my amazingly talented husband, Jason, and our fantastic tiny humans, Elora & Tristan.  They are the ones who support me in everything I do, and they are the best and most important people in my life.  They are also incredibly patient when I have to grade essays all night!  I am lucky to have them in my life and I talk about them all the time.  Jason is an artist in multiple mediums and is going back to school to get his degree at UNT, specializing in sculpture.  For the first four years of her life, he was a stay at home dad for our girl - all of her awesomeness is totally his fault (especially her tendency to sing everything she does).  Elora is in second grade this year and she's just about the coolest kid in the entire world.  Tristan was born in February 2021 during the snowpocalypse.  He is a smiley little guy and my wonderful dad moved in with us to help with kid sitting.  We also have three dogs - Maverick, Truly, & Judge.  It's a full house, and I couldn't be happier!
