Mrs. Melba Chance, US History

I was born and raised in Missouri; graduated from Moberly High School in 1977 and from Springfield's  Southwest MO State Univ. (Now MO State Univ) in 1981 with a BA in Antiquities (Ancient Near Eastern/Classical Studies, Religious Studies minor). I married my soulmate, Paul, in 1982, moved to Joplin, Ryan was born in 1985 and Christy in 1987. We moved to The Colony, TX in 1988. I was a stay home mom by choice until going back for secondary ed social studies teaching certification at TWU in 1998. I currently hold a lifetime teaching certificate in History and a provisional teaching certificate in Secondary Ed Compositie Social Studies. I taught at the middle and high school levels, then returned to TWU for a Masters in History in 2012. I taught part time for Collin College for five years and am pleased to return to full time employment with Little Elm HS. This is my last year teaching; I will be retiring at the end of the 2020-21 school year and am very excited about this "next chapter" of my life!

We currently have 3 wonderful grandchildren; they have such incredible personalities and just make us laugh. I look forward to spending more time with them!

I love to travel! As a child, my parents took us to all 48 continental states on summer vacations; as an adult, I have also visited Alaska and Hawaii. I spent a month in college doing archaeological work in Israel, toured several European countries as a People to People Student Ambassador leader in 2000, have traveled with my husband's work to several other European countries, South Africa, Australia, and have visited a few Caribbean/Central American countries on family vacations. Lots of places are still on my bucket list! Paul and I enjoy state and national parks and scenic drives.

I sing, play keyboard and some guitar, write/record my own music, play/sing in our church's praise team, and love to read. As you can see, I will have lots to do when I retire, but until then, I'm stoked about this school year even with all the craziness of Covid-19! This will be my best year yet--can't wait to meet my students and explore our nation's history together!
