Mr. Maxwell Atkinson

Maxwell Atkinson is the Assistant Director at Little Elm High School. He is a graduate of the University of North Texas with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education. He was a student teacher and Associate Director of Bands at Creekview and Blalack Middle School prior to his appointment.

While at the University of North Texas, Mr. Atkinson studied euphonium under Dr. Brian Bowman and Dr. Patrick Nyren. Mr. Atkinson also marched in the Green Brigade marching band for four years, serving as section leader, marching technician, and eventually drum major. He also participated in the University of North Texas Concert band under the baton of Dr. Nicholas Enrico Williams, NT Tuba-Euphonium ensembles under Dr. Brian Bowman, and various chamber ensembles. Outside of UNT, Mr. Atkinson marched for three years at The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, earning the “Rookie of the Year” award in 2011 and serving as Horn Sergeant in 2013. Mr. Atkinson taught at the Cavaliers and has also taught the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corp, in addition to various other marching bands in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area.

At Little Elm, Mr. Atkinson assists in all aspects of the band program including leading the Symphonic Winds, assisting in the marching band as the visual coordinator, assisting in the Wind Ensemble, co-teaching the Symphonic Band, and teaching a beginner low brass class at Lakeside Middle School. Additionally, Mr. Atkinson teaches a Music Appreciation course.

Mr Atkinson currently resides in Little Elm, Texas with his wife who teaches choir at Creekview High School. They have two cats, Piper and Winston. He is a member of TMEA, NTTEA, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
