Mr. Michael Horvath - 8th Grade Science & HS Physics
I am excited about this new school year, & the opportunities to innovate it offers. I am a believer in learning with laughter. If students are having fun & smiling, they will be learning as well. With school opening under more "normal" circumstances, I can't wait to get to know all of my students & get back to having fun in the classroom. The Science curriculum is offered through Canvas, but there will also be interactive notebooks for in-class work, notes, handouts, etc...
I enjoy incorporating videos & movies into my lessons & I am not above “geeking out” in front of my students. I wish to ignite the fire of Science in my students as my teachers did for me when I was in Middle School.

HS Credit Physics:
40% Formative Assessments
Daily grades, Assignments, Quizzes
60% Summative Assessments
Major Tests, Major Assignments, Projects
Summative Assessments that receive a grade of 84 or below may reassess for a maximum grade of 85. In order to be eligible for reassessment, students must attend a minimum of one tutorial and complete the reassessment within 5 days of the assessment being posted in the FOCUS online gradebook.
Physics taught at the middle school level will be using the high school 9-12 grade weights for report card calculations. This consists of 40% for coursework/daily and 60% for summative assessments per the district grading guidelines. The grading guidelines can be found on the district website. The rationale is that since students are receiving high school credit for this course then they should be using the high school grading weights. This ensures that all high school courses are being treated equitably regarding grade point averages (GPA). If you have any additional questions about grade weights or GPA, please talk to your teacher and/or counselor.
