LEHS Welcomes New Head Coaches to Girls Athletic Program

Little Elm ISD is pleased to announce the hiring of three new head coaches at Little Elm High School.

Brent Achorn will lead as the Head Softball Coach for the Lady Lobos.  Achorn has been coaching softball for more than 20 years in places like Marshall High School, Kemp High School, Athens High School, Mabank High School, Fossil Ridge High School, Abilene High School, Springtown High School, Pottsboro High School, Cleburne High School, and Granbury High School.  He most recently led the Athens team as they won the Bi-District Championship game in 2019. He has a history of leading teams to multiple playoffs, district and regional championship games. He has won more than 300 games as a head coach, but if you ask him, it’s more about the girls. “It’s great to win, but another good thing is to see their smiling faces when they do something good that you’ve taught them. Just building relationships with the kids and seeing their success in all areas of their lives is what it is about,” said Achorn.

Leading the Lady Lobos in a different sport is the new head volleyball coach, Veronica Mendez. She was previously the head volleyball coach at Van Alstyne where she led the volleyball program to its first State Championship appearance in school history. In the three years, she was there, she earned notable accolades such as three-time Region 2-District 10 Coach of the year, 2018 All-Texomaland Coach of the Year Nominee, 2019 All-Texomaland Coach of the Year, 2019 State Championship Runner-Up, and 2019-2020 TGCA 1-4A All Star Coach.  Mendez was one of eight coaches selected in the state to coach in the 2020 Texas Girls Coach Association All-Star Volleyball game. She has been coaching volleyball for ten years, which includes three years at Eastern New Mexico University as a graduate assistant coach. “I am so excited to come to Little Elm ISD to use my experience and continue the Lobos on the path of excellence,” said Mendez.

Congratulations go to Ken Tutt for his promotion to Head Basketball Coach for the Lady Lobos. Tutt is no stranger to Little Elm High School. He taught physical education and also served as the Varsity Assistant and freshman coach for the boys’ basketball team. Before moving to Little Elm, Tutt spent three years coaching basketball at South Garland High School and was the JV girls head coach.  Tutt also served as a coach with Full Throttle Basketball DFW and prior to that spent his career playing the game as a professional player in Europe. His accolades include Member of the men’s basketball team, Freshman All-American, MVP of Team, 2016 Hall of Fame Inductee, and South Garland HS assistant coach for Boys Basketball 3rd place finish at the 2017-2018 UIL State Tournament.
