TWU Offered $52,000 in Scholarships During LEHS Instant Decision Day
September 11, 2018
Some Little Elm High School seniors are leaving school Tuesday with a sigh of relief and a smile on their faces. Texas Woman’s University G-Force team and members of the admissions office worked jointly to help students with college needs, such as application, financial aid, and understand upcoming deadlines during TWU’s Go Center open house at Little Elm High School. In addition, 13 students stopped by to learn they were admitted to TWU and received their certificate. This is part of the College Readiness program, Instant Decision Day, where major universities visit LEHS and put college applications and HS transcripts through a supersonic process to provide students immediate answers of whether they have been accepted. Keisha Brown, District College Readiness coordinator, said LEHS is the only school in the area to offer instant acceptance into major universities. “I think this is awesome. As a parent, I am blessed that my own children attend this District and will be afforded this chance when it’s their time to start applying to college.”
This is TWU’s third time to offer instant decisions on location at LEHS and it was the biggest turnout. Last year, TWU provided three instant decisions, and 10 the year before that. To make it more unique, TWU added a new layer to the acceptance by offering merit scholarships on-the-spot totaling $52,000. “This is the first time we have offered on-the-spot scholarships to students,” said Arissa Gayton, assistant director of admissions. “The kids are happy because they walk away with something in their hands to take home to their parents.”
Brown says Texas Tech University will be at LEHS in November hosting its Instant Decision Day to students who successfully complete the admissions application and provide official high school transcripts.
