Little Elm ISD student enrollment is projected to grow by more than one thousand students over the next five years and more than double that in 10 years.
Daniel Gallagher, Little Elm ISD superintendent, has unveiled the District's plan for the three buildings on Lobo Lane as part of the Bond. "We are tremendously grateful to our community for supporting the Bond that will allow us to move forward with our plans once we open the two new middle schools."
By January, the District plans to break ground on Strike and Walker Middle Schools. "We couldn’t be more excited about the designs and plans for these two buildings and we think our students, teachers, and community will be proud of the final design," said Gallagher. Strike and Walker Middle Schools are scheduled to open in the fall of 2020.
Once the middle schools are open and operating, the District will begin work on the three buildings on Lobo Lane. "We know we need another elementary school to alleviate our increased student enrollment at the elementary level. Our plan is to convert Zellars to a neighborhood elementary school and convert Powell to an Early Childhood Center for all of our pre-kindergarten students and District Child care. This will free up classrooms at our elementary campuses which allows for additional space for our continued growth," said Gallagher.
As Zellars opens, the administration team will move to Lakeside Middle School which will have been re-purposed for administration offices and the AIMS and GOALS program. It will allow for larger professional learning spaces for teachers, and other academic programming opportunities for our students. It is also important for us to preserve this historic building that was the original high school for the District.
"Another layer of our vision is how to best use the land around Lakeside Middle School," said Gallagher. "I think we have a great opportunity to expand the outdoor recreational areas for the town, which in turn benefits our students and the community. In the coming months, I will be visiting with town officials to discuss this incredible opportunity."
As the District continues to experience fast student growth, we are securing land for future generations. Recently, we’ve acquired 12 acres in Valencia on the Lake, 35 acres near Oak Point Elementary, and acreage on Hart Road by the stadium.
