Two Prestwick Teachers Awarded Voya Unsung Heroes Award

October 9, 2018

In front of the the fourth grade classes of students, Voya Financial representatives presented a $2,000 check to Prestwick teachers Erika Malcom and Krystal Jones. This team of teachers was one of 100 winners picked from across the country out of 1,200 applicants. The purpose of the Voya Unsung Heroes is to help fund and bring their program to life. The team's innovative teaching idea, "Intergrating STEM in All Subjects," focuses on creating a program for the students at Prestwick to give back to the community through STEM learning units centered around service projects.

In addition, they will now compete with other finalists for one of the top three prizes: an additional $5,000, $10,000, or $25,000 from Voya Financial.

"Our Unsung Heroes program continues to recognize teachers who go above and beyond to inspire today's students in the classroom," said Heather Lavallee, president of Tax-Exempt Markets at Voya Financial. "We are proud to honor teachers like this group whose inspiring program is making a difference in the lives of young people. This commitment and passion for teaching closely aligns with our focus at Voya on helping all Americans prepare for their unique financial futures."
