Instant Decision Day at LEHS Leaves One Student Surprised

November 1, 2019

Students accepted to SFA University

Six Little Elm High School students were instantly accepted into Stephen F. Austin State University this week. SFA is the latest major university to join in the rankings of universities to partner with Little Elm High School to host Instant Decision Day for interested seniors.

Each student who was interested in attending SFA and completed the application, was invited to join the admissions representative in the library. One-by-one, they were called over to speak with her.  “Congratulations, I want to welcome you to Stephen F. Austin. You’re college application has been accepted and you meet all the requirements,” she would tell the student. Elated, they shook her hand as soon as they were told. For Pablo Lobato, LEHS senior, he did more than shake her hand. He gave her a hug and showed gratitude toward his unanticipated acceptance. Lobato shared that for the last year, he did not score as well as he wanted on the SAT college admission test several times and gave up hope to ever being accepted into SFA, a university he has always wanted to attend because of the theatre program.

“I basically came to the Instant Decision Day thinking I would be able to ask questions about how I could still get into that college. I never expected to hear I was accepted. I am going to run home and tell my parents I am going to college," said Lobato.

Instant Decision Day has been at LEHS since 2015. Participating universities include: Texas Tech University, The University of North Texas, Texas Woman's University, and Midwestern State University.
