Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers incredible opportunities to boost your learning and creativity. This guide is here to assist you in using AI within our school (and beyond) in a safe, respectful, and responsible manner.
π Respect for Privacy
Never share personal information such as addresses, birthdays, phone numbers, or any information that could be used to identify yourself or others while using AI tools, as well as any other online platform. Protecting your privacy and the privacy of others keeps everyone safe.
π‘οΈ Cybersecurity
AI can generate many different forms of content, but it should never be used to harm others or damage the school’s technology. That means not trying to create or spread harmful files, viruses, or anything that could hurt the network. It's all about balancing the good with the bad. Always think about using technology in a way that is safe and responsible.
π Academic Integrity
AI should support your learning—not replace it. Using AI to cheat, copy (plagiarize), or turn in work that isn’t your own (including AI-generated content) is considered academic dishonesty. If you use AI to help with ideas or research, make sure to give credit to the source by citing it.
βοΈ Responsible Use
You are expected to follow the Student Code of Conduct and the Responsible Use Agreement when using AI or any technology. AI should never be used to create harmful, disruptive, or inappropriate content that could disrupt the educational environment or interfere with the rights of other students or staff. Misusing AI tools could result in consequences, just like with other technology use.
π Analyzing AI
Not everything AI creates is true. Always double-check information, look for trustworthy sources, and be aware that AI can sometimes show bias or mistakes. Watch out for misinformation (wrong by accident) and disinformation (wrong on purpose). Carefully consider the output before you use it. Distinguishing between reality and fiction is increasingly vital when utilizing AI tools.
π© Reporting Concerns
If you notice any possible biases or issues with AI systems, or witness unethical or inappropriate use of AI, you should share your concerns with your teachers or school administrators.
