Celebrating Artistic Excellence: LEHS Students Shine at State VASE Competition
LEHS VASE Competition Winners

This past weekend marked a remarkable achievement for the budding artists of Little Elm High School as they participated in the 30th State VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event) competition held in San Marcos, TX. Led by their art teachers Kelly Sutherland, Hannah Hernandez, Zachariah Ammons, and Chris Melia, these students showcased their talents amidst thousands of participants, judges, and art enthusiasts. It was a moment of pride as they courageously presented their creations for evaluation and admiration.

The numbers speak volumes about the scale and significance of this event. With a staggering total of 33,127 regional high school entries in 2024, that number dwindled to 23,241 entries achieving the coveted 4 ratings at the regional level, earning them qualification for the state event. Among these, 2,342 students secured their place at the State VASE.

At the state level, the achievements were even more remarkable. A total of 1418 students earned the prestigious Rating 4, showcasing exemplary skills in their artwork. Furthermore, 162 students were honored with the esteemed Gold Seals, a recognition reserved for the top echelon of talent. Among these exceptional artists were eight of our LEHS students. Allysa Slocum, Lisette Larin, Kate Rodriguez, Chandra Ankem, Malyn Brigman, Ian Pitts, and Katelynn Ott received a State Rating of 4, placing them among the top 4% of all entries from the state.

In addition, one outstanding student, Yoselyn Diaz, received the highest honor and prestigious Gold Seal, a distinction achieved by less than 0.5% of all entries statewide. This remarkable accomplishment is a testament to Diaz's exceptional talent and dedication to the craft. Diaz’s art will be exhibited in various venues across the state with other Gold Seal recipients.
