Little Elm ISD Athletic Director Set to Retire

Little Elm ISD announces the retirement of Athletic Director Michael Young after five years of leadership in the District. With a career spanning more than three decades in public education, Young leaves behind a legacy of growth, progress, and pride in Lobo athletics.

When asked about his decision, Young shared that the timing simply felt right.
“It’s time, and I’m ready to try something new,” he said. “I’ve truly enjoyed my time in Little Elm and appreciate the people I’ve met and worked with across the District, our campuses, and the community. I feel like together we have elevated our programs to where they need to be. We have seen improvement with who is in place, and I know this program is better than it has been. We have the right people in the right place, and I’m excited to watch the momentum continue.”

During his time at Little Elm ISD, Young led and guided significant improvements to two major indoor facilities, including the new competition gym and a multipurpose indoor facility. Under his direction, three team sports advanced to the playoffs for the first time at the 6A level, and this year, the District celebrated a historic milestone with the Varsity boys basketball team capturing a state championship. In addition, student-athletes earned state tournament appearances in boys cross country, girls wrestling, and girls powerlifting.

Prior to joining Little Elm ISD, Young spent the majority of his 31-year career at Lake Dallas ISD, including 16 years as head football coach. Although he began his career at Lake Dallas ISD in 1995, he spent two years from 1998-2003 as an assistant football and basketball coach at Newman Smith High School in Carrolton-Farmers Branch ISD before returning to LDISD.

Throughout his coaching career, Young earned numerous accolades, including two-time District Coach of the Year and Denton Record-Chronicle Coach of the Year. He led his teams to five district championships, a state semifinal appearance in 2015, and playoff appearances in 12 of 16 seasons. He also guided Lake Dallas to its first playoff win in school history.

Little Elm ISD thanks Coach Young for his dedication, leadership, and lasting impact on student-athletes and the community. His contributions have helped build a strong foundation for continued success in Lobo athletics. He officially retires at the end of the 2025-2026 academic school year.
