Little Elm ISD Celebrates Third Annual District Spelling Bee Winners

Little Elm ISD proudly hosted its third annual District Spelling Bee, an event that continues to grow in participation and excitement each year. Students from across the district showcased their academic skills, perseverance, and confidence while competing in both English and Spanish spelling competitions.

This year’s English Spelling Bee included students in grades 3-8, with 18 particpants representing campuses across the district. The competition culminated in a dramatic 25-round showdown between Hackberry Elementary 3rd grader Kiara Roy Banerjee and 5th grader Ethan Doan. Kiara earned the championship with the winning words albeit and feudalism, while Ethan finished as runner-up.

Both the Banerjee and Doan will represent Little Elm ISD at the Denton County Spelling Bee, where they will compete against students from 15-20 schools across Denton County.

Following the English Bee, students took on an additional challenge in the Spanish Spelling Bee, which required competitors to spell words in Spanish while demonstrating proper accent usage. The Spanish Bee included 15 particpants in grades 3-6. After an intense competition, Hackberry 5th grader Andrea Escamilla earned the championship in Round 12 with the winning words cerrojo and izquierdo. Oak Point Elementary 5th grader Melanie Suarez was named runner-up.

The Spanish Spelling Bee Champion will advance to compete at the Region 11 Spanish Spelling Bee, representing Little Elm ISD against schools from across Region 11.

Each year, increased participation highlights students’ enthusiasm for learning and their willingness to challenge themselves beyond the classroom.

Little Elm ISD congratulates all students who participated and wishes the district’s champions the best of luck as they prepare for county and regional competition. The District is proud to celebrate these students’ hard work, confidence, and academic achievement.
